SpecificMEDIA is an Internet marketing and advertising company. SpecificMEDIA software components exhibit behaviors of both spyware and adware. The company clearly states in the EULA for the GoGoTools software that GoGoTools will:
"...collect and store information about the web pages you view and to generate and display pop-up and pop-under ads, advertising windows and similar advertisements (the "Services") on your computer screen. GoGoTools uses the information it collects to, among other things, determine which ads to display to you. Some information collected by the GoGoTools Software is personally identifiable, such as your email address, but all information we collect, even non-personally identifiable information, can be linked to your personally identifiable information."
Spyware applications are responsible for any number of potential privacy violations including, but not limited to tracking surfing habits, monitoring computer use, retrieving sensitive or personal information, and assisting adware in serving targeted advertisements.
Many spyware applications send the data they retrieve to a remote server. Some spyware applications serve ads based on the data collected from a user's PC. |
